may grow through the implant, the triplant pins merely rest in bone. Unlike the tightly integrated connective tissue in and around a post type implant or a blade-vent, the connective tissue around a triplant pin merely forms a sleeve into which the pin slips, an action aided by the slight rocking that occurs during normal motions of the jaws. Although the template tends to reduce this rocking, the triplant can never be used as really more than an internal brace. This became obvious when triplants were combined with other implants and the restoration endured longer.

This case and those following it indicate the evolution of the mixed implant rationale. In the first cases all the implants, no matter what design, were inserted simultaneously. Operative difficulties were alleviated by inserting the post type implants

Fig. 10-234. A scalloped template is fabricated. It should include a posterior palatal connecting bar and vertical mush-room pin heads with predetermined holes through the template. It should also include a number of pontics for the support of the superstructure. The peripheral borders should be rounded so as not to injure the soft tissue. It should have a polished undersurface.
