before making the template, as illustrated by the following case.

Three anterior vent-plants were screwed into the alveolar bone (Fig. 10-231), and an elastic impression was taken of the entire maxilla, including the three implant shafts (Fig. 10-232). (A full mouth plaster index including the three protruding implant shafts   with or without interchangeable gold copings —could also have been taken.)

A master stone model with three duplicate implant shafts was prepared (Fig. 10-233), and a scalloped gold template was fabricated from the stone cast. The template included vertical extensions anteriorly, an improvement that eliminates the need for the gold coping connecting bar shown in the previous cases, and mushroom-shaped protrusions in the triplant areas for inclusion in the acrylic cores. These help bind the triplants to the template. Holes were then made between the mushroom-shaped protrusions to accommodate the triplant pins (Fig. 10-234). These holes were determined by taking radio-graphs while the template was in the mouth.

Fig. 10-235. The template was fitted into position.

Fig. 10-236. Pin implants were then drilled through the template.

Fig. 10-237. Acrylic cores were built up to secure the pins and then prepared for full crown restorations.

Fig. 10-238. A full arch rubber base impression was then taken.

1 Scalloped gold template placed on the upper jaw
2 Pin implants drilled through maxillary scalloped template
3 Acrylic cores secure dental pins & prepared for full crown restoration
4 Maxillary full arch rubber base impression taken
