Pterygoid extension unilateral right

The remaining teeth were restored (1), then the posterior site exposed for an impression (2). Here a pontic cantilevered from the restoration has an internal screw system. The impression includes this pontic or a plastic coping made to fit over the pontic, as well as the palatal portion of the ridge investing the teeth bordering the edentulous span. The impression must also include the tuberosity and pterygoid process. The resulting implant has a palatal finger (3, arrow) extending from the crown that covers the cantilevered portion. With the implant in place, the screw can be seen occlusally (4, arrow). After healing (5), the final units are fabricated and seated (6).
