Pterygoid extension

unilateral left

A three-quarter arch restoration is made for the remaining teeth (1,2). As always before bone surgery, a full mouth soft tissue impression is taken to measure tissue thickness in the edentulous area so that the pterygoid implant pontics will not impinge or interfere with the occlusion. The unilateral posterior edentulous site was then revealed (3). The prototype was inserted and an impression made (4,5), which picked up the prototype as well as the restoration (6). On the stone model (7), the implant was designed. The implant was inserted (8,9), and after the site healed (10), impressions were taken for the final splint.
