Pterygoid extension bilateral

Male and female attachments were also used in old style bilateral pterygoid extension implants. Here the natural tooth situation was stabilized (1,2), and an anterior splint prepared (3). This had cantilevered female attachments (4) for accepting the male attachments of the pterygoid extension implants (5). Note that the old style implants (6) are characterized by a bar arising from the hamular notch; long, thin palatal arms embracing the tuberosity, and by horizontal screws to further insure anterior lockage. The implants were inserted (7,8), and the case finished when their respective splints were cemented (9,10).
