Endosteal blades

combination natural teeth and blade abutments

A knife-edge ridge was revealed when the tissues were reflected. This ridge was reduced (2) to accept bladevents (3). An open-socket bladevent was selected because its double posts helped counterbalance the singleposted bladevent and tooth combination. The recessed shoulder, not needed here to avoid an open socket—its original design intention, allowed the regrowth of more bone over the implant, an advantage in a narrow ridge situation. Posteriorly a bladevent was inserted in the maxillary tuberosity (4). In the mandible, one neck of an anterior bladevent was removed because the patient complained of sensitivity in the area.
