Maxillary endosseous implant interventions 443

Fig. 10-212. A prefabricated palateless denture with predetermined holes to accommodate the pin implants is seen.

Fig. 10-213. A colorless palateless acrylic template with its holes corresponding to the holes made inside the denture was also prefabricated. (Courtesy I. Lew.)

mouth for esthetics and proper bite. When these were satisfactory, the denture was processed (Fig. 10-212). The teeth were made of acrylic instead of porcelain. Holes were made inside the denture to coincide where the terminal ends of the triplant pins were to extend out of the fibromucosa. A clear, color-Iess acrylic template was also processed (Fig. 10-213) . This too had predetermined holes that coincided with the areas for the triplant pin insertions and with the holes inside the denture.

The template was then placed in the mouth and the location of the holes marked with indelible pencil (Fig. 10-214). The template was removed, and the pins were driven through the marked areas. (Alternately, the template could have been left in position while the pins were driven through.) Roentgenograms were taken with the insertion of each pin.

Fig. 10-215. Pin implants in series of three's were driven through the marked areas and into the bone. Their ends were then bent parallel to one another and their excess length removed. (Courtesy I. Lew.)

Fig. 10-216. The pins were affixed to one another by placing Teflon cylinders (exhibiting three parallel holes along their entire internal structures) over them with the aid of acrylic. (Courtesy I. Lew.)
