Case 8

Bilateral restorations using a scalloped template with precision attachments and triplants

When the long-term fate of a triplant in a posterior edentulous area is dubious for any reason, a tern-plate with precision attachments may be used. To facilitate removal, the template bears on its most

anterior portion a male attachment that fits into a female attachment on the most distal portion of the restoration spanning the prepared abutment teeth. This type of template may be used for bilateral restorations, in which case a template is made for each side of the jaw, or for a unilateral restoration. The following case illustrates one of the reasons why such a template procedure may prove handy.

The patient, a 58-year-old woman, was very suspicious about the longevity of implants and wanted assurance that there would not be much future work
