Maxillary endosseous implant interventions 401

Fig. 10-58. The prosthesis was tried in the mouth for ac-curacy of its fit and passivity of template to the tissues.

Fig. 10-59. After it was cemented, pin implants were driven through the previously prepared holes in the template. (From Linkow, L. I.: Maxillary endosseous implants, Dent. Concepts 10 [1] :14-24, 1966.)

Fig. 10-60. The pins were carefully locked to each other with acrylic liquid and powder, using the brush-on technique. (From Linkow, L. I.: Maxillary endosseous implants, Dent. Concepts 10 [1] :14-24, 1966.)

Intraoral radiographs of both posterior edentulous areas were taken with the prosthesis still in the mouth to evaluate the relationship of the maxillary sinus to the scalloped template.

The prosthesis was then removed from the mouth, and holes were drilled with a No. 557 fissure bur through the template for the pins. These holes should be angulated in the direction in which the pin implants must go in order to avoid the sinus. They must also be slightly larger than the pins; otherwise, the inserted pins can distort the template, thereby

tending to dislodge the prosthesis or to create a great deal of pressure and tension, which could lead to failure.

Hard cement (oxyphosphate of zinc) was then placed inside the crowns, the teeth were thoroughly dried, and the prosthesis was placed into proper position and held firmly until the cement hardened. The excess cement was then removed.

The pin implants were then slowly drilled through the holes in the template, angulated in their proper positions (Fig. 10-59). Each step was carefully
