(9), which arises from the pterygopalatine nerve and travels inferiorly and anteriorly along the wall of the nasal septum to pass through the incisive canal (10) into the oral cavity. Within the canal itself, the nasopalatine nerve exchanges fibers with the anterior superior alveolar nerve branches, and thus these minor twigs of the nasopalatine nerve may affect the central incisor area.

The posterior portion of the palate is innervated by the pterygopalatine nerve (3), which may occur as one or more roots that quickly encounter a ganglion — the pterygopalatine ganglion (11),
