The patient had been fitted with a bulky partial that attached to, and threatened the security of, his remaining teeth (I). A universal type bladevent was inserted in the cuspid area (2,3). The endosteal and artificial abutments were included in a restoration bearing a cantilevered female attachment (4). An impression was taken for the unilateral pterygoid extension implant (5), and the site closed (6). The restoration for the endosteal abutments and the pterygoid extension implant compliment one another (7,8). The restoration was cemented (9-11), and the pterygoid extension implant inserted (12 through 17). The implant included a palatal portion as additional support because of the large span. When the tissues healed, the final portion of the splint was fabricated and the case finished.
