Maxillary Implants (published 1977)   Dr. Leonard I. Linkow

Unilateral subperiosteal implants have been successful in many cases, although they have been abandoned for the more predictable unilateral pterygoid extension implant with its superior bracing action. Here (1) a unilateral sub periosteal implant is inserted in a posterior edentulous span. Note that the post arises from a cross strut, and the "roll bar" effect of the buccal strut. The implant is seated (2), and when the site heals (3) the impression is taken for a four-unit splint (4), using the implant post as posterior anchorage and the prepared cuspid as anterior anchorage.
