This ridge required considerable work before bladevents could be used. The old appliance (1) was anchored posteriorly bilaterally by a single tooth (2). The revealed ridge was knife-edge (4), with a variety of other flaws, including an unremodeled socket (5). Alveoplasty was in order to smooth socket walls (6) and reduce the knife edge (7,8). This left the residual bone considerably reduced (9). Bladevents were successfully inserted (10-14), and the differences in anterior and posterior abutment height compensated in the prosthesis (19,20).
