Pterygoid extension left and right

endosteal blade anterior

Bulky tissues (1) pad a superb example of a knife-edge ridge (2)! The ridge was reduced to accept double-posted bladevents (3-5), and then pterygoid extension implant prototypes used (6) to get an accurate impression, shown with die pins inserted (7). The fabricated implant (8) covers a significant portion of the palate, with fingers directed posteriorly along the ridge from the anterior palatal portion toward the palatal brace extending from the hamular notch area. These indicate a trend toward joining the fingers to form a continuous strut along the palatal surface of the ridge to resist lateral thrusts of the tongue. The final restoration was a fixed-removable prosthesis.
