Case 2

Restoring centric occlusion by occlusal reconstruction with the aid of vent-plants

The most striking form of mandibular malposition is prognathism, sometimes called functional mesiocclusion. In this condition the mandible has been shifted to a forced, protruded position that is the only comfortable relationship of the jaws. The lower anterior teeth are labial to the uppers, some-times completely covering them, and usually the lower posteriors are buccal to the upper posterior teeth. Temporomandibular joint disturbances can occur in conjunction with prognathism.

In some cases of mesiocclusion the anterior teeth can be restored to an edge-to-edge relationship. This
