Maxillary endosseous implant interventions 407

Fig. 10-79. The master model shows the veneer casting, implant copings, and the atypical inlay preparation made on the existing cuspid crown.

Fig. 10-80. The completed prosthesis with its anterior inlay preparation was cemented into position.

Fig. 10-81. Six years postoperatively, a Panorex shows spiral posts in the maxillary molar area. In spite of the fact that the screws were placed too close to one another and the solid shafts were never buried in bone, the patient is still able to masticate with no discomfort. A blade was placed 1 year prior to x-ray of lower left side.

Case 10

A full arch splint for bilateral free-end saddle areas using spiral-shaft implants and a temporary splint

An important decision in planning restorations for a bilaterally edentulous maxilla is whether to include all the implants in one complete full arch splint or to fabricate two unilateral fixed partial dentures instead.

The choice should be based upon the number of teeth remaining and their condition. Generally, how-over a full arch splint is preferable when both posterior quadrants are edentulous. The following case illustrates the procedure using spiral-post implants.

Radiographs of the edentulous areas were taken. For more accurate definition of the septal floors of the sinus, good intraoral roentgenograms are pref-
