Fig. 10-12. Two veneer crown castings are fitted over the prepared teeth.

Fig. 10-13. The veneer crown castings are soldered together and processed with acrylic facings after the posterior scalloped template, including the vertical mushroom pin heads, is soldered to the second bicuspid restoration.

template was soldered to the castings. The first portion of the template was the vertical post, which supported the anterior crown of the two-unit, one-piece super-structure casting that fitted over it. The second portion of the template included vertical mushroom posts. These mushroom posts, which could either have been cast with the template or later soldered to it, helped increase the bond between the acrylic core and the gold template. They could be bent in any direction if they interfered with the pin irnplant insertions, or all but one could have been removed. Instead of the mushroom posts, gold wires could also have been soldered to the area to serve the same purpose. Only one end of a wire is soldered; the other is bent into a loop.

Acrylic was processed onto the two anterior crowns (Fig. 10-13). At this point, because the mush-room heads would interfere with taking an impression of the template for making the superstructure, a fast-setting stone mix was poured over and in between the mushroom projections. When this hardened, it was prepared for a full crown restoration (Fig. 10-14) . This stone core simulated the eventual acrylic core that would act as the posterior abutment.

Fig. 10-14. The quick-setting stone previously poured over the mushroom pin heads is prepared for a full crown restoration.

Fig. 10-15. A, The stone core is prepared so that when the models are articulated there is enough room occlusally for a restoration. B, The one-piece superstructure is fabricated from an elastic impression. C, The superstructure is seen accurately fitted over the template.
