proper degree of vertical dimension and other conditions are checked. The superstructure is then picked up with an accurate rubber base impression or with one of the alginate materials. The entire lower arch should be included in this impression. During the next visit, a wax-up of acrylic teeth fitted to the metallic superstructure should be fitted before processing the denture so that bite, articulation, and balancing can be corrected. Finally, the completed processed denture is fitted in and rearticulated for high spots, prematurities, and impingements (Fig. 1-66). The implant denture is implant-borne only. It should not compress the underlying tissue.

At least every 3 months the patient should be recalled for periodic check-ups regarding fit, proper

balance, and articulation. Periodic roentgenograms of the osseous structures in relation to the implant should be taken at least once each year to check for any bone resorption that might have occurred.

In regard to all types of implants, both endosseous and subperiosteal, the operator must educate and impress the patient with the importance of cleanliness in his restoration's success.
