Foreword

It is with great pleasure that I write this foreword for Dr. Leonard I. Linkow's text. I have known this lexiographer, author, teacher and friend for over twenty years. I have had the pleasure to visit his clinic and to witness his magnificent surgical techniques in implantology. We all must have an open mind. Knowledge exists to be imparted.

Dr. Beverly B. McCollum said before a large congress in Los Angeles in 1933, "Never sell it or teach it unless you have it on the shelf." Dr. Linkow "has it on the shelf".

I respect his contributions in the pioneering of implantology and his will to keep on researching and improving his techniques. This text has covered clinical studies and observations of many hundreds of cases. I am proud this author `calls them' as he `sees them'; as I said before, we must have an open mind. The professional man has no right to be other than a continuous student.

This best reminds me of my friend, Leonard.

We all must remember, not all things mechanically made are ever-lasting. I admire this author for being honest to tell us of his failures. We all learn from failures. I have had my share and have learned from them.

We know there is much controversy in the field of implantology. There is also much controversy in Gnathology, Periodontia, Orthodontia, etc. "Never knock it unless you have tried it" as Dr. Harvey Stallard always said.

I compliment this author on this text. He has worked hard, giving us his research and experimentations on his improved techniques. Last year Leonard said, "Peter, I wished I knew then what I know now." I said, "Shake hands, you are manly enough to admit this."

I continually meet many students of this author's in many different continents of the world, and all have told me how much he has helped them. He has the desire to give.

This man possesses self control, diligence, strength of will, creativeness, and a hundred other virtues which most men never know.

I quote Michaelangelo . . . SUCCESS . . . "The surest way not to fail is to determine to succeed."

and

TRIFLES . . . . Trifles make perfection and perfection is no trifle
   Michaelangelo.
